but, then, they meet a freelance archeologist named angel and they sort of become clark and malfina. flux was actually the first one in a while even, because after you watch the first five loves of your life die it kind of takes the heart out of it. they do swear off mortal lovers for a while, though. Thea is distraught of course, and does become a recluse again for a couple decades, but then realizes after talking it out with people they trust that they can be happy and continue to do things that make them happy without flux, even if he was the one who encouraged them to do this in the first place. he fucks off to a different countryside to menace and build a base and basically declares himself thea’s nemesis. having successfully convinced himself that thea is some cartoon villain, he decided to convince thea to turn him so they can spend eternity together, but then basically dumps them on the spot so he can go turn into what he thought thea would turn into. However, flux starts getting paranoid about thea’s vampirism, thinking when he dies they’ll go right back to being an ornery bastard looming over the countryside and that he’s just a fleeting fancy. in turn, thea encourages flux’s delves into his own brand of temperature-based wizard shit. flux sort of teaches thea to love little things again and encourages them to do things that make them happy even if they seem silly or stupid, like rig their estate with a ridiculous amount of scooby doo-like traps for shits and giggles and throwing ostentatious sums of their nigh infinite wizard vampire money at the local community. Then thea gets all flustered and just says for him to just go, but from then on their interactions are much more courteous and they eventually become friends and even lovers. it culminates in them roughing him up a little and threatening him with their claws while physically restraining him, whereupon he can only sigh dreamily about how goddamn pretty they are.
but flux being a persistent bastard starts trespassing a whole lot and thea makes increasingly violent efforts to tell him to get the fuck out. flux came to town one day and tried to find a place to stay and decided to ask at thea’s estate since it’s huge, but thea being an ornery bastard says no. Thea was an ornery bastard of a vampire wizard before they met flux, and even when they were still friends.
